NEWS: FORMER PRESIDENT OF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO HALL PASSES ON

On the 23rd of November, 2023, residents of Obafemi Awolowo Hall were met with the tragic news of the demise of the former President, OreOluwa Oluwatoyin. Oluwatoyin, who served as president during the 2020/2021 session, made a significant impact in the hostel community through her work to improve the experience of Awoites. She was a well-respected member of the hostel community and she will be greatly missed.

Iyanuoluwa Komolafe, the former majority leader of UI SRC, Awo Hall constituency and a resident of the Hall wrote on her status, eulogizing the late President. “Toyin was the hall chair while I was majority leader. She was unassuming and very patient. It is a privilege to have served with you: porter’s duty, hall week, freshers’ welcome, package sharing, dragging the gen with you to the ground floor of I block so that we could pump water to G, H & I when there was power outage. Toyin was a hardware tech sis, she cut the wires and fixed them back one time Mr Muideen was delaying us, aside from the porters and supervisors, only Toyin and I know how to pump water to G, H & I block. Sigh, thank you for serving Awo hall. Your birthday is next tomorrow sis, but God knows best. Rest in Peace, Toyin.”

In the same vein, Ayomikun, a resident of the Hall expressed how Oluwatoyin was calm, approachable and ready to help people in any way she could, “I had issues with my accommodation portal in 200l and I complained to her. She responded on time, helped me out with it and kept asking if I had any more issues with it. She was very amicable and easy-going. May her soul rest in perfect peace.”

Obafemi Awolowo Hall extends her deepest condolences to the family and friends of OreOluwa Oluwatoyin. She was a person of great integrity, compassion, and commitment and she will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
