Council of Hall Chairpersons Submits Proposal for Increased Basic Hall Dues

By Hadiza Usman

The Council of Hall Chairpersons (COHC), University of Ibadan has formally proposed an increase in basic hall dues for student residents, citing rising maintenance costs and the need for improved living conditions.

In the letter addressed to the Student Representative Council (SRC), the COHC recommended raising the dues from 3,000 Naira to 5,000 Naira per student per session. According to the letter, this proposed adjustment is necessitated by the rising costs associated with hall maintenance, the need for enhanced hall services, and the overall improvement of students’ living condition.

“The proposed increment has been carefully considered in light of rising costs and the need to enhance students’ welfare in their respective halls,” the letter stated.

The COHC also requested a formal discussion with the SRC to provide further justification for the proposal, address concerns, and explore measures to ensure that any adjustment remains fair and beneficial to students.
