The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU) has confirmed that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) application deadline has been extended to June 6, 2025 in a memorandum released on may 25th, 2025. Additionally, the Union also announced the waiver of the N20,000 late payment fee and a commitment to accelerate NELFUND refunds for affected students.

In a memo signed by UI’SU President Covenant Odedele and General Secretary Segun V. Olowu, the announcement followed ongoing engagements with University management and NELFUND officials to address students’ difficulties with loan applications and disbursements.

According to the memorandum, UI’SU has received over 970 complaints since March 22, 2025, regarding delays in verification and fund disbursement. The Union facilitated two sessions with NELFUND officials on April 22 and May 21 to improve the application process and ensure loan disbursements match amounts listed on the school portal.

On the resolution of these meetings, UI’SU confirmed, “The extension of the June 6 deadline for students awaiting loan disbursements and other students unable to pay; reversal of the N20,000 late fee; and acceleration of the NELFUND refund processes for students affected.”

The memo also confirmed the establishment of a NELFUND Support Office at the ITEMS Office, NCC Digital Park, Tech Road, to provide in-person assistance during school hours.

UI’SU urged students to remain calm and assured them that the Union will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely updates.
