The Residents of Obafemi Awolowo Hall participated in the hall’s monthly sanitation exercise held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to improve hygiene and cleanliness within the hostel.
The sanitation exercise which began at 7:30 a.m. included a range of tasks such as scrubbing bathrooms, washing toilets, picking up litters, and cleaning corridors and kitchens. All residents were required to participate in the exercise.
Speaking on the outcome of the exercise, the Health Minister, Miss Tolulope Aladeolu, described the turnout as encouraging, particularly from first-year students. “The turnout was impressive, especially from the freshers’ block. Everyone understood the importance of maintaining a clean space, and they responded accordingly,” she said.
Aladeolu acknowledged minor challenges, including limited cleaning materials and water supply, but said the cooperation among awoites helped ensure the success of the exercise.
She also emphasized the need for awoites to maintain hygiene in the hall. “If we use the toilets and bathrooms properly, avoid littering, and stop throwing water over the balconies, the hall will remain clean, and the next sanitation won’t be this hectic,” she said.
The Health and Sanitation Committee expressed appreciation for the residents’ participation and reiterated its commitment to fostering a clean, safe, and healthy environment in Awo Hall.
