Awo HRC Ratifies Executives Budgets at Ordinary Sitting

The Obafemi Awolowo Hall Representative Council (HRC) of the University of Ibadan ratified executive budgets across key offices during its ordinary sitting held on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

The sitting, which took place at the Students’ Common Room, began at 7:30 p.m. and was presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Atilola Akinbote. In attendance were honourable members, the executive council, and the clerk of the house. During the sitting, executive officers presented their budget proposals for the 2024/2025 academic year. All were approved after deliberation.

The President’s office received ₦25,000 for inter-hall council dues, refreshments, and transportation. The Secretary of State’s office was allocated ₦7,500 for stationery and letterhead printing.

The Health Minister, Aladeolu Tolulope, presented a budget of ₦119,750 for drugs, sanitation supplies, transport, and refreshments for tank cleaning involving 55 participants.

The Information and Publicity office was granted₦25,900 for design incentives, microphone batteries, notice board pins, and data. The Finance office received ₦13,000 for bank statement printing, other documents, and transport.

The Defence office was approved ₦52,000 for patrol jackets, torches, delivery costs, and chewing gum. The Sports office received ₦54,000 for equipment, airtime, and transportation. The Social and Welfare Ministry was allocated ₦116,000.

Also, Social Director, Deborah Oyebade, presented a financial report indicating that ₦288,970 was spent on the Freshers’ Welcome event.

During the Any Other Business (AOB) segment, Hon. Gift recommended that executive budgets be presented collectively in future for better coordination. Hon. Faridah raised concerns about poor sanitation and called for more consistent routine checks in the hall.

The sitting was adjourned at 9:33 p.m. following a motion by Hon. Gift.
