Two UI Students to Appear Before SDC Today Over May 13 Fee Protest

Two students of the University of Ibadan are to appear before the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC) today, June 30, 2025, over a protest staged during the Students’ Union inauguration ceremony held on May 13.

Ayodele Aduwo, from the Department of History, and Olamide Iyanoluwa Gbadegesin, from the Institute of African Studies, were summoned via memoranda dated June 25. The committee sitting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Conference Room of the Student Affairs Division.

The university alleges that the students engaged in misconduct during the inauguration of the 2023/2024 Students’ Union executives by leading a protest against the recent increase in school fees.

“The meeting is a continuation of the investigations on the allegation of misconduct bothering on insubordination/unruly behaviour to wit: obstruction of the swearing-in ceremony for the 2023/2024 newly elected executives of the Students’ Union by you and two other students,” the memo reads.

The university directed the students to appear properly dressed and warned that failure to attend could attract further disciplinary action.
