Obafemi Awolowo Hall Literary and Debating Society defeated Lord Tedder Hall in the first leg of the 2025 Jaw War Debate Competition, which began on September 16 at the New Faculty Lecture Theatre (NFLT).
Representing Obafemi Awolowo Hall, Goodluck Akinlawon and Esther Ojo opposed the motion that food security in Nigeria should be driven primarily by private sector investment. They scored 81.91 percent, while Lord Tedder finished with 77 percent.
Other results from the first leg were:
Kuti – 77%, Idia – 78.9%
Zik – 78.1%, Queens – 76.4%
Indy – 79.9%, Bello – 85.1%
Mellanby – 78.28%, ABH – 84.2%
Best speakers were Muiz Opeyemi of Bello Hall and Moboluwarin of ABH.
The competition continues with subsequent rounds in the coming days.
