The Obafemi Awolowo Hall, University of Ibadan, held the day two of its Hall Week cultural celebration, Ariya Flenjo, on Saturday, December 13, 2025. The event commenced at exactly 8:45 pm and drew a large turnout of residents and guests.
The programme opened with interfaith prayers, after which appreciation was extended to the Hall’s Social Director for coordinating the event. The Minister of Social and Welfare, Oyebade Deborah, delivered the opening address, formally declaring Ariya Flenjo open.
In her address, Deborah emphasised the importance of cultural heritage, noting that while styles may evolve, culture remains enduring and relevant. She thanked residents for their participation and encouraged them to enjoy the performances and celebrate unity through culture.
Cultural displays formed the highlight of the night as students representing different ethnic groups took turns performing traditional dances. The Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa groups each presented performances that showcased their distinct music, attire, and dance styles, drawing enthusiastic reactions from the audience.
During the event, Writinova was also introduced to attendees. Williams Owoeye, the Chief Marketing Officer of Writinova, spoke on the role of artificial intelligence in academic and creative work. He described artificial intelligence “as a modern tool comparable to calculators in earlier times,” explaining that Writinova AI could help users generate ideas and support their writing. He added that the platform was affordable and designed with students in mind.
The programme featured games, dancing, and refreshments, contributing to an engaging atmosphere throughout the night. The cultural night was later brought to a close, marking a successful second day of the Obafemi Awolowo Hall Week celebrations.
